Please provide a short personal biography about yourself including what made you want to become a locksmith?

I’m Lachlan, I’m a 24-year-old qualified locksmith with just over 7 years’ experience in the locksmithing trade at Macarthur Locksmiths. I was always interested in pursuing a trade in school, locksmithing was my first career choice. I originally did work experience with Macarthur Locksmiths, fell in love with the job and was lucky enough to start my apprenticeship here and learn and grow from the team.

I wanted to become a locksmith because I was drawn to a trade that challenged me to think, solve problems and work with my hands. From the beginning, I enjoyed the variety of work that locksmithing offers. No two days are ever the same, and every job presents a new challenge. What really appealed to me was the opportunity to help people. Whether its assisting someone who has been locked out, improving the security of a family home or installing the latest technology. It makes me proud knowing my works makes a difference.

Since then, I’ve been passionate about developing my skills and becoming the best locksmith, I can be. I take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship, providing honest advice, and ensuring every customer receives reliable, professional service.

Throughout my career, I’ve gained experiences/knowledge across a wide range of locksmithing, including residential, commercial, alarm & CCTV, automotive work, master keying, digital locks, lock repairs, key cutting & emergency call outs. I enjoy solving complex problems and finding practical solutions that give customer’s confidence and peace of mind.

What are some of the skills and abilities necessary for someone to succeed as a locksmith?
As a locksmith you will need a combination of technical skills, problem solving skills and attention to detail, excellent customer service. Integrity, adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning are equally important as the locksmith/security industry is constantly evolving. A successful locksmith is someone who customers can trust to provide reliable workmanship and professional advice while protecting what matters most to them.

What key issues do you think will affect the locksmith industry in the coming decade and how do you think these should be approached?
I believe the locksmithing industry will continue to evolve rapidly as technology advances. One of the biggest challenges will be keeping up with the growing demand for smart locks, digital security and access control systems. As customers increasingly move towards electronic and connected security, locksmiths will need to update their skills and knowledge to stay relevant.

Cybersecurity will also become more important as more locking systems connect to mobile apps and the internet. Locksmiths will need to understand not only the physical security of a property but also the digital risks associated with modern security products, Ongoing training and working with trusted manufacture will be essential.
